The no-kids-allowed movement is spreading
What's the matter with kids today and why doesn't anyone want them around? In June, Malaysia Airlines banned babies from many of their first class cabins, prompting other major airlines to consider similar policies.
Lately, complaints about screaming kids are being taken seriously, not only by airlines, but by hotels, movie theaters, restaurants, and even grocery stores.
Earlier this month, McDain's, a Pittsburgh area restaurant that banned kids under 6 became a mascot for the no-kids-zone movement.
"Brat bans could well be the next frontier in destination and leisure-product marketing," writes Robert Klara in an article on the child-free trend in AdWeek.
Traveling is one thing, but what about in kids' own hometowns? Should kids been banned from local movie theaters, like they were at a recent adults-only Harry Potter screening? In Texas, one cinema chain has even flipped the model, banning kids under six altogether, except on specified "baby days".
Even running errands with toddlers may be off limits. This summer Whole Foods stores in Missouri are offering child-free shopping hours and in Florida, a controversy brews over whether kids can be banned from a condominium's outdoor area. That's right, some people don't even want kids outdoors.
When did kids become the equivalent of second-hand smoke? Blame a wave of childless adults with money to spare. "Empty nesters continue to wield a huge swath of discretionary spending dollars, and population dips in first-world countries mean more childless couples than ever," writes AdWeek's Klara.
Catering to the child-free community may be good for business but is it good for parents? It could help narrow choices and make kid-friendly environments even kid-friendlier. And let's be honest, babies won't miss flying first class. They won't even remember it. But their moms and dads will.
Most parents with young children have self-imposed limits on spending and leisure. This new movement imposes limits set by the public. And the public isn't as child-friendly as it used to be. As businesses respond to their new breed of 'first-class' clientele, are parents in danger of becoming second-class citizens?

BREAKING NEWS: Amy Winehouse Found DEAD In London Apartment
The singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her flat in north London at the age of 27. The award-winning artist, famous for hits including Rehab from the critically-acclaimed album Back to Black, was discovered by police in the late afternoon. Her death was being treated on Saturday night as "unexplained".
The Metropolitan police said: "Police were called by London ambulance service to an address in Camden Square shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene."
Winehouse was last seen with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield earlier last week when the teenager performed at the iTunes festival.
Winehouse had suffered a well publicised battle with drink and drug abuse which saw her withdraw from all of her scheduled performances last month after a series of erratic performances.
She started her 12-leg European tour in Belgrade but was booed off the stage after appearing to forget her lyrics. She then pulled out of performances in Istanbul and Athens before she cancelled the tour.
A statement released by the troubled singer's spokesperson said that she would be given "as long as it takes" to recover. "Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen."
Winehouse entered the Priory Clinic in May where she stayed for one week. She remained an outpatient there.
She rose to fame with her debut album Frank in 2003 which was feted by music critics in the UK and nominated for the Mercury music prize, but it was her 2006 follow-up album Back to Black which catapulted her to stardom and led to six Grammy awards. The album became the third-biggest selling album of the 2000s. Winehouse had been working on her long-awaited new album for the past three years and spent a stint in St Lucia in 2009 working on new material.
Fears had been growing for Winehouse following her disastrous appearance in Belgrade last month. Three years ago in an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Winehouse's mother Janis said she would be unsurprised if her daughter died before her time.

Shocker: Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony announce separation
Wow! Well this one came out of nowhere. In the shocker of the day, "American Idol" judge and singer Jennifer Lopez and her singer hubby of 7 years, Marc Anthony, just announced they're headed to SPLITSVILLE.
On the heels of allegedly being only a couple steps away from signing a close to $20 million deal to return to "American Idol" for another season, she is about to find herself single again.
41-year-old Jenny and 42-year-old Marc Anthony put out a whopper of a joint announcement today stating they have made the difficult decision to separate:
"We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters."
"It is a painful time for all involved," the statement continues, "and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
The twosome seemed to be one of the picture perfect couples head over heels in love--even through the hard times of attempting to get pregnant with their now 3-year-old twins Max and Emme. They made one of their last joint appearances last month at the Samsung Hope for Life Gala. I guess all the duets in the world couldn't save them.
