U.N. helicopter shot at over Ivory Coast

A United Nations helicopter was shot at Monday while on a reconnaissance flight over the Ivory Coast, the U.N. said Tuesday.

The U.N. operation in the nation blamed forces that support Alassane Ouattara for firing the shots, which they said did not reach the helicopter. It was flying reconnaissance over Duekoue at the time, the U.N. said.

"Elements of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) fired at the helicopter, but failed to hit it," said the mission, which identified the group as supporting Ouattara. It said the action could be considered a war crime.

The international community has widely recognized Ouattara as the winner and legitimate leader of the west African nation, but incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo has refused to cede power. The stalemate has resulted in uncertainty and bloodshed.

Forces loyal to Ouattara said they have taken the cities of Daloa, Duekoue and Bondoukou. CNN could not verify those claims Tuesday.

Pro-Gbagbo forces shot at innocent civilians Monday in the Abidjan suburb of Williamsville, killing about a dozen people, the U.N. operation said in the same statement.

The U.N. is serving in a peacekeeper role in the nation, which has been wracked by violence and is sliding toward civil war following a November election.

Earlier this month, at least 25 people were killed in what the U.N. condemned as a shocking escalation in violence.

France, Ivory Coast's former colonial ruler, called it a "deliberate massacre of civilians" and called on the U.N. Security Council to adopt sanctions against Gbagbo and his circle, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero.

History of the African Head Wrap

African head wraps have been a part of both the African and the African American culture for centuries. The colorful cloths represent the history of the African people and are worn proudly by both men and women. African Americans who wish to preserve their heritage typically choose to wear head wraps even today. The head wrap has a different meaning when worn by men than it does when worn by women. Even the colors of the head wrap have a different meaning.

History
Head wraps have served as a head cover for Africans, mostly women, since at least the early 1700s. According to Danya London Fashions For All, a group of African slave women appear in a 1707 painting that was created by Dirk Valkenburg, a Danish painter, that depicted them wearing head wraps that appeared high on the forehead and above the ears. However, it is believed that African cultures used head wraps before the days of slavery so that men could show off their wealth and the level of their social status and so that women could prove that they were prosperous and spiritual.

Features
The head wrap typically covers the hair completely. One cultural significance about the African head wrap is that African women typically secure the wrap using a knot at the base of the crown which leaves the neck and forehead exposed. Part of the reason for this is to make the facial features appear striking so that anyone that wishes to look upon an African American woman would look up at her face rather than down at her body.

Identification
African head wraps come in many bright bold colors that animate the face. According to Africa Imports African Business, in West Africa, head wraps are referred to as "gele" in Yoruba or "ichafu" in Ibo. Some African American women continue to wear head wraps to boast their spiritual strength.

Considerations
The Clearinghouse on Educational Policy and Management at the University of Oregon states that policies should not restrict religious expression and that various forms of religious expression such as a head wrap should be respected as long as students' expression of religious beliefs does not infringe upon the rights of others.

Fun Fact
According to Danya London, the head wrap has now become a staple of traditional black dress; arrays of wonderful head wraps, fashionably worn at special events, have now become a fashion statement for the black woman. In history, the head wrap was hard to come by and therefore usually worn by wealthier black men and women. Now the head wrap is an available garment for men and women of all statuses to wear.

Myanmar swears in new president

Myanmar's former Prime Minister Thein Sein has been sworn in as the country's new president, marking the end of the military body that has governed the Asian nation for decades, state-run Myanmar Radio reported Wednesday.

Tin Myint Oo and Sai Muak Kham will serve as vice presidents. The president named 30 ministers and 39 deputy ministers to his government, according to state-run radio.

In February, Myanmar convened its first parliament in more than two decades in the capital, Naypyidaw.

The lawmakers came into office after elections were held in November for the first time in 20 years. The elections drew fire from critics who said the voting was aimed at creating a facade of democracy.

The regime refused to allow international monitors to oversee the race and would not allow international journalists to cover the voting from inside the country. Journalists who reported from inside Myanmar had to do so surreptitiously.

The military junta also overhauled Myanmar's constitution in a way that critics say was aimed at tightening the regime's grip.

The constitution now requires more than 100 military nominees in parliament. Myanmar, also known as Burma, has been under military rule since 1962.

Among those who boycotted the elections was opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, which described it as a sham.

Causes & Treatment of Hiccups

Hiccups are sudden, involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. As the muscle contracts repeatedly, the opening between your vocal cords snaps shut to check the inflow of air and makes the hiccup sound. Irritation of the nerves that extend from the neck to the chest can cause hiccups.

Hiccups Causes
Many conditions are associated with hiccups, but none has been shown to be the cause of hiccups.

•If you eat too fast, you can swallow air along with your food and end up with a case of the hiccups.

•Any other practices that might irritate the diaphragm such as eating too much (especially fatty foods) or drinking too much (drunk people hiccup) can make you prone to having hiccups.

•In these instances, your stomach, which sits underneath and adjacent to the diaphragm, is distended or stretched. Because they occur in relation to eating and drinking, hiccups are sometimes thought to be a reflex to protect you from choking.

Try these methods at home:
•Hold your breath.
•Drink a glass of water quickly.
•Become frightened.
•Use smelling salts.
•Pull hard on your tongue.
•Place one-half teaspoon of dry sugar on the back of your tongue. (You can repeat this process 3 times at 2-minute intervals. Use corn syrup, not sugar, in young children.)

How to Attach a Full Lace Wig Using Glue

Full lace, or lace front, wigs can be attached using one of two methods: glue or adhesive tape. Many feel that using glue will provide a better, firmer hold--no one wants to worry about whether their wig will slip off. Attaching a full lace wig with glue can be done at home by following a few simple steps.

Things you'll need:
Wig glue
Small brush
Scalp protector
Scissors
Hair dryer

Instructions

1. Make sure that the skin below your hairline is hairless, clean and free of styling products and oils. This is where you will attach your wig, and prepping the area will ensure a secure hold.

2. Cut the lace of the wig back to the hairline, being careful not to cut any hair off the wig. To see where you need to cut, position the wig on your head in front of your hairline. If you match the wig up with your hairline, then you will get glue onto your hair.

3. Clean and dry your face and neck to prep the area for application of a scalp protector.

4. Apply a scalp protector below your hairline and let it dry completely. This is optional, but will provide maximum adhesion for your wig, as well as protect your scalp and the perimeter of your head from the glue. You can buy scalp protector at a beauty supply store, or from the same retailer where you buy your wig.

5. Use a small eyeshadow brush or the brush included with the glue to apply it below the hairline, where the front of the wig will be.

6. Dry the glue for at least 30 to 45 seconds with a blow dryer that's on a cool setting. The purpose of this is to make the glue tacky, which will provide better adhesion. Depending upon which brand of glue you use, this can take up to 15 minutes.

7. Press the front hairline of the wig to your skin where the glue has been applied, and press down firmly until the wig stays in place on its own--this can take up to one full minute. Repeat this process for the nape and sides of the wig.

8. Wait at least 15 minutes for the glue to dry before trying to style your wig. If you try to style it too soon, you may move the wig out of place.

Scrunch or Diffuse Drying for Curls

If your hair is fine and/or dead straight, even the greatest amount of effort in the form of scrunch or diffuse hair drying will not result in a messy textured scrunched or curly hair style. If your have a natural wave, loose or tight curl or have a permanent wave and you are after more waves, move volume (bigger hair) or a longer lasting look, the advice we have on scrunch or diffuse hair styling will prove invaluable.

Firstly, to get the best results you will need to learn a few basics.

The diffuser is an attachment that you fit to the end of your hairdryer which spreads the airflow and prevents blowing your hair at all. It relies mainly on the heat of the dryer to dry, so would normally be used on the hottest heat setting and lowest speed.
The products you will need (and you do need them) will change depending on the type of curl you want and what is possible with the natural degree of wave you have. Curl enhancing finishing products and care ranges are a good place to start. For scrunching though I still love a little old fashioned mousse.

Technique:

1. Shampoo and towel dry your hair. If it needs to be detangled brush it through prior to shampooing rather than combing it after, this will help to enhance any natural waves or curls by allowing it to clump together in its natural sections.

2. Apply a curl enhancing product. The amount you use depends on how much hair you have and you will be able to work this out the more you style your hair yourself. As a general rule, use less than you think. Too little will result in a shape that won't last as long or be as curly as you wanted, too much will leave the hair sticky and hard to work with. When applying any product to your hair always pop it into your hands first then work it around them. This will spread the product so that as you put it into the hair, you won't get patches of too much. Another way to prevent patches is to dab the product over the hair, applying small amounts all over the place. As less is left on your hands, work more firmly to remove the last bits.

3. Put the diffuser onto the end of your hairdryer.

4. If your hair dryer has various heat and speed settings put it on high heat slow speed for best results.

5. Start with the underneath of your hair and work towards the top as this area always dries out first and will go frizzy with this type of look if over-dried.

6. Hang your head from one side to the other or tip upside down for more lift/volume.

7. With longer hair, allow it to sit within the diffuser by almost gathering your hair into it in a circling motion from the ends moving towards the scalp. With shorter hair simply hold the diffuser over the head.

8. The real trick now is not to touch your hair. You may place your fingers in at the scalp to lift the hair away a little to give more volume or to hold the curl gently in place if your natural wave is very slight. Besides that don't touch!

9. Finally, leave a little moisture in the hair at the end and allow this to dry out without the hairdryer. This will help prevent an attack of the "frizzies". Only when the hair is totally dry (give it about 1/2 an hour) can you shake your fingers through your hair to loosen the curl out and then shape to style.

You never get things perfect the first time so keep practicing as this look is a great alternative and eventually is the ultimate in the quick 5min style. As for what to do between shampoos: nothing! Don't be tempted to brush or comb this, as you will loose the look. If it does go a little flat when you sleep on it then mist with a water spray in the mornings and use your hands to push back the curls. Finger diffuse drying for texture and wave.

This technique is very easy and will give a simple wavy/messy texture to natural soft to medium curls or permed hair that is up to 6"/15cm in length.

1. Apply your chosen styling product to your hair and comb it through to ensure an even distribution.

2. Fix a diffuser to your hairdryer.

3. Set your hairdryer to high heat low speed.

4. Keep the end of the diffuser about 3"/6cm from the hair.

5. With the other hand, use your fingers to lift the hair away from the scalp and gently "scrunch" the hair. To scrunch, tilt your head sideways, gather the hair in one hand with open fingers and gently "scrunch" it whilst holding the hair close to the head to reduce strain.

6. Once the hair is dry, leave for a further 15 minutes to fully cool off.

7. Finally use a little wax or oil to define and separate your curls, the amount of which depends on the individual product instructions, to complete the look. Don't get too fussy at this point, playing with your hair will destroy the look.

How to plait a fishtail

The basic gist of this form of plaiting is that you don't have to keep the sections separate for any longer than it takes to cross them over each other. The finished result should look like the herring bone pattern you see reproduced on fabric. Here are two variations.

Tools and other items you will need:
1. Covered elastic bands
2. Paddle or similar brush to remove tangles
3. A little hair spray
4. A clip to keep hair not being plaited out of the way
5. Possibly a few pins or grips or odd pin if you have layers to secure any stray bits!

Method 1: (for a single fish tail down the back of the head):

1. Brush your hair through so that it is easily separated with your fingers.

2. Take a section from either side of your face, about 3 cm (or 1") deep, running from sideburns to temple

3.  Draw the sections back towards the crown and cross the right section over the left.

4. Using your right hand press the cross over point to the head to hold the hair in place.

5. Use your left hand to pick up a new section from the left side. Take it from under the first section and make it about the same size.

6. Take the new section of hair over the right-hand section and, as you do so, swap to hold the hair down    with the left hand at the cross over point. The ends of the sections will naturally fall down the middle and merge with the rest of the hair.

7. With the right hand now free, use it to pick up another new section from the right, cross it over the section from the left, held down in the middle. Again, as you cross over, change the hand that is holding the hair pressed to the head.

8. Simply keep repeating this until you run out of hair. If you get lost, remember that the side from which you last took a section should correspond with the hand holding the hair in the middle. Therefore you are always about to take your new section from the side that the free hand is on.

9. As you pass beyond the nape or can no longer take hair from the sides, continue by taking hair from the underneath of your "ponytail" and crossing this hair over at the centre front.

10. Secure at the end with your covered band, it looks good if you use a fine section of hair to wrap over the band to cover it.

Method 2: (for a fish tail braid that starts from a ponytail in the nape of the neck or 'bunches' either side):

This is really simple, especially once you're familiar with method 1 above.
1. Gather your hair as if to place it in a ponytail or 'bunches'.

2. To start, take a section of hair from the left and right and then cross right over left, hold the cross over point in place with the right hand.

3. With the left hand, take a section from underneath and bring it round to the front and cross it over the middle.

4. Hold it pressed to the rest of the hair with the same hand, so freeing up the right hand.

5. Using the right hand, take a section from underneath the ponytail and bring this round to the front from the right side, cross it over the middle and hold in place with the right hand freeing up the left.

6. Keep repeating steps 3,4,5 until you run out of hair and then secure with a covered band.

You can do this either tightly or loosely to get different effects; you do however need long hair if you are going for the loose version, else it will simply unravel.

A lost thought

Lost beyond discretion close to an illusion far from reach
A concussion that deemed unnecessary until the day I reached you
The presence of an unseen joist causes confusion
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Consumed with a memory that I once had
Mesmerized as my brain misinterprets my feelings
Caught in between two worlds
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Falling prey to a fallacy I once had
Seeking approval from an external source
Their thoughts linked to totalitarianism
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Being victimized by the least expected
A plot of revenge I cannot bond with
A bold decision of confrontation
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Outraged at the thought of a thought
A feeling glued to a naïve reaction of choice
Regret lost through time
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

An ethical appeal I should have had
A connection to who I am
My own enemy beyond my imagination
As it subjugates my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Fighting my own thoughts a battle never to be won
Like an equation that does not tally
A connection in between imagination and reality
As I subjugate my thoughts
Lost in between a thought I should have had.

Are Online Degrees Accredited?
According to the Better Business Bureau, many fraudulent schools (better known as diploma mills) are profiting on the popularity of distance learning and are attracting students into their “degree programs”, often with the promises of a quick diploma. Marketing representativess take advantage of students lack of knowledge about college accreditation, and use the terms“fully accredited” , “nationally accredited”, or “accredited worldwide” to assure the student of the program's legitimacy. The key to finding a quality program is accreditation, the most widely known and accepted being regional accreditation. Today, there are hundreds of reputable colleges and universities, including well known traditional campuses, offering full online degree programs.

Can I Get Financial Aid for an Online Degree?
If taking distance or online classes as part of a program at a traditional, regionally accredited institution, you will be assisted by the Federal and state financial aid received for the full program. If it's an online only program offered by a traditional institution, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

Until recently, the U.S. Department of Education, through the Distance Education Demonstration Program, was testing funding for distance education among carefully selected participating institutions. To prevent abuse and fraud in student aid programs, the Department initiated the 50 percent rule, which required colleges to provide at least half of their courses on campus instead of online to receive Federal financial aid.

However, according to a recently passed Congressional Bill, the 50 percent rule has been eliminated, and colleges and universities no longer need to follow this guideline to receive financial aid. They can continue to increase their offering of online programs, and when enrolled in a regionally accredited program you will be eligible for aid from all Federal Title IV programs (including the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and the Federal Stafford Loan Program.)

Selecting an Online Degree Program
1. What is the college or university's program accreditation? In general, it is important to make sure the college is accredited by an established and accepted accrediting body, as well as any specialized accreditations. To learn more about accreditation and why it's important.
2. What are the admission and registration requirements? These may include age, academic qualifactions or prerequisites, required testing, transfer of credit and other academic policies.
3. How new is the college's online program? Look for a program that has a proven success rate, satisfied current students or alumni, or a history of providing quality programs for the adult learner.
4. What are the qualifications of the faculty and what type of academic support is available? Do most of the faculty hold advanced degrees from a variety of schools, or did they obtain their credentials from the school itself? Is advising and tutoring provided?
5. Look at the faculty-student ratio, and how the faculty and student interactions take place. Is the program self-paced or on a fixed schedule? Look for a smaller class size, as courses with a smaller number of students can help you receive more personal attention from the instructor if needed. It is also important to know the school's total student enrollment, as a large student enrollment is an indicator of a strong program with many graduates. Ask the college how many students have successfully graduated from the program and if they can provide information about job placement rates.
6. What are the school's tuition and fees, including payment schedule? What is the reimbursement policy upon withdrawal? What kind of financial aid, financing, or grants and scholarships are available?
7. Does the college or university provide good customer service? Make sure the school is highly customer service oriented and will provide a personal academic advisor to assist with any questions and help facilitate your course of study from matriculation to graduation

How Do Employers View Online Degrees?

Acceptance is on the rise in an emerging industry

Increasing numbers of older students are participating in online courses or seeking full degree programs online. These programs are an attractive alternative as they help busy adults balance hectic schedules. As the numbers of interested students steadily increase, the number of colleges and universities providing these online programs also continue to rise. According to recent statistics, over 90 percent of traditional institutions provide or plan to provide some kind of program through distance learning.

For example, Keller Graduate School of Management has several online master's degree programs for busy working professionals. Programs include a master's in business administration, project management, account and information systems management, and some graduate certificate programs. DeVry University is offering an online bachelor's degree in business administration with concentrations in accounting, business information systems, e-commerce, information technology, and project management - all online.

Many other nationally recognized universities are offering full programs through the Internet as well. Professors who teach the online courses have commented that the quality of work is typically higher from the online student than the traditional student who is physically attending a class. In addition the degree earned online is the same credential earned when attending a traditional class.

Traditional, brick-and-mortar universities often make no separation between their programs and the type of degree awarded. For example, students can take 90 percent of their coursework in the classroom at New York State University, and the remaining 10 percent online, and receive a degree from New York State. Students could also complete 90 percent of their classes online, take only 10 percent on campus, and be awarded the same degree. If a student is interested in taking some courses online at a regionally accredited university, and then transferring them to the traditional university next door, the transfer credits will be accepted 90 percent of the time, according to John Bear, author of Bear's Guide to College Degrees by Mail and Internet.

For profit universities, such as the University of Phoenix, are wholly targeted to working adults. There are over 19,000 students enrolled, and all coursework can be completed entirely online. Programs include associate, bachelor, and graduate degrees. The University of Phoenix is fully accredited, and is quickly growing in recognition and popularity among older students. Up to 59 percent of students at the University of Phoenix receive tuition assistance from their employer.

For more examples of featured online programs and to request information, see our degree directory.

It is vital that students interested in online programs do their research before selecting a program. Some institutions lack the appropriate accreditation, or provide poor interaction between students and faculty. Other universities, termed "Degree Mills," award diplomas not worth much more than the paper they are printed on.

Recognized institutions with online degree programs carry more weight with employers than degrees awarded by lesser known schools. A Vault.com study reports that 77 percent of hiring managers say that an online degree received through an established university such as Duke or Stanford is more acceptable than a degree earned through an Internet only university like Capella or Jones International. However, some say such an assessment is unfair, as Capella and Stanford have the same regional accreditation and uphold rigorous academic standards.

Despite concerns, acceptance of online degree programs is on the rise. Many corporations are hiring applicants with online degrees, or providing tuition reimbursement. As more traditional and quality institutions begin to offer these programs, they will become more common and widely accepted. According to a report from Market Data Retrieval, colleges providing online degrees doubled in just one year. The survey of 4,000 institutions showed promising figures: in 1999-2000, 34 percent of colleges offered degrees on the Internet, up from 15 percent just the year before.

The Sloan Consortium found that complete online degree programs are offered by 34 percent of institutions. Among public institutions, 49 percent are offering full online degree programs. 80 percent of public and 37 percent of private institutions offer both online and blended programs. For profit institutions expect to increase their online programs more rapidly than any other type of institution, anticipating an increase of more than 40 percent. In addition, according to Consortium findings, three quarters of academic leaders at public colleges and universities believe that online learning quality is equal to or superior to face-to-face instruction (The Sloan Consortium: Entering the Mainstream, October 2004.)

As increasing numbers of professionals receive their degrees and professional training on the Internet, employers uncertain of online degrees will need to re-evaluate their position. These programs are coming on strong in the education industry, as technology becomes more sophisticated and the demand grows.

•Feeling like you need to urinate more often than usual
•Feeling the urge to urinate but not being able to
•Leaking a little urine
•Cloudy, dark, smelly or bloody urine

Tips on preventing urinary tract infections

•Drink plenty of water to flush out bacteria. Drinking cranberry juice may also help prevent urinary tract infections.
•Don't hold your urine. Urinate when you feel like you need to.
•Wipe from front to back after bowel movements.
•Urinate after having sex to help wash away bacteria.
•Use enough lubrication during sex. Try using a small amount of lubricant (such as K-Y Jelly) before sex if you're a little dry.
•If you get urinary tract infections often, you may want to avoid using a diaphragm as a birth control method. Ask your doctor about other birth control choices.

Home Remedies:

Treating Urinary Tract Infection With Water
One of the best home remedies for urinary tract infections is to simply drink lots of water. By drinking lots of fluids, you will force yourself to urinate more often, which will help your body flush out the bacteria that is causing the infection. A recommendation is to drink 6-8 large glasses of water per day.

Using Vitamin C as a Natural Cure for Urinary Tract Infection
Increasing your daily Vitamin C intake can help increase the acidity of your urine, which can help prevent bacterial growth. Therefore, if you suffer from frequent UTIs, taking 1000mg of Vitamin C per day has been shown to be quite effective at preventing recurring infections.

Cranberry Juice as a Natural Remedy for Urinary Tract Infection ****
Cranberry juice contains high concentrations of Vitamin C and Quinolic Acid, both of which are known to help treat UTI since they help prevent bacteria from anchoring onto bladder walls. Therefore, if you have UTI, drinking 12 to 24 oz of cranberry juice can be very effective. As a preventive measure against urinary tract infections, drinking at least 3 oz per day works quite well.

Herbal Remedy for Urinary Tract Infection Using Echinacea
Echinacea is an herb that contains a number of substances which help fight infections including UTI. You can either drink an Echinacea tea once per day after lunch or dinner, or consume high-quality 300mg Echinacea capsules or tablets once per day. Echinacea capsules can be found in many health stores.

Treatment:
The antibiotics most often used to treat urinary tract infection are pills typically taken for three days, and sometimes as long as 10 days, depending on the bacteria causing the infection, the drug used your medical history:
•trimethoprim (Trimpex)
•trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra, Cotrim)
•amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox, Wymox)
•nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Furadantin)
•ampicillin
•ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
•ofloxacin (Floxin)
•norfloxacin (Noroxin)
•Levaquin (levofloxacin)

How serious are urinary tract infections?
Urinary tract infections can be painful. But medicine can keep them from becoming a serious threat to your health. The kidneys can also be infected, which can be a more serious problem. Kidney infections usually require an antibiotic for a longer period of time and are sometimes treated in the hospital.

Laser Hair Removal Guide

Laser hair removal is designed to permanently remove unwanted body hair by using the light energy from a laser.Unwanted hair is a common problem in women and men. Shaving, waxing, and tweezing only produce temporary results and can generally only be carried out on relatively small areas.

Laser hair removal treatment can be used to permanently treat and remove small and large areas of unwanted hair from the body.Best results occur in those with light skin and dark hair, and hair removal works better on coarse hair rather than fine hair.

What is involved with laser hair removal?
The area is shaved and cleaned, and an anaesthetic cream applied. The laser then produces pulsed beams of highly concentrated light which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles, damaging the surrounding follicle.

The procedure can be uncomfortable, but it is not usually painful. The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Any redness and swelling of the affected areas usually disappears in a short time. And most people return to normal activity right away.

Are there any risks associated with Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a safe procedure if carried out by an experienced person. Possible complications include:
•darkening or lightening of the treated skin
•burning/blistering of the treated skin
Since darker skin is more susceptible to changes in pigment, tanning before laser hair removal should be avoided.

How many treatments will I need?
Most treatments require 4-6 sessions for permanent hair removal in any one area. The procedure can be repeated at monthly intervals.

Zsa Zsa Gabor hospitalized after Liz Taylor death

Zsa Zsa Gabor's publicist says the shock of Elizabeth Taylor's death made Gabor fear she was next and sent her to the hospital with high blood pressure.

John Blanchette says the 94-year-old celebrity was watching the news Wednesday morning at her Los Angeles home when she learned her friend and one-time neighbor had died. Blanchette says Gabor was inconsolable and commented: "Oh, Jane Russell and Liz Taylor — I'm next."

Blanchette says Gabor's blood pressure soared and she was taken to the hospital until Monday evening. Gabor has been in ill health and her right leg was partially amputated in January.

But Blanchette calls her a fighter and adds: "She's not going to be the third."

Peanut butter allergies

This allergy accounts for over three-fourths of all deaths related to food allergies each year.

Peanut Allergy Symptoms

Symptoms vary from individual to individual. There are three main categories of symptoms: skin (hives, eczema, red and swollen mouth); gastrointestinal tract (stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting); and respiratory (itchy, watery nose, sneezing, and symptoms associated with asthma, like coughing and wheezing).

Up to six percent of women develop a food allergy by the age of two, with children showing signs of peanut allergies as early as a couple of months old. Peanuts are not recommended for children under two years old.

The Severity of Allergic Reactions

Eighty percent of people have a reaction to peanuts that involves breathing problems and multiple areas of the body. People with a severe peanut allergy can have a reaction to peanut traces left on a wiped counter top, cutlery or plate. Known as anaphylaxis, this type of reaction is a sudden, severe allergic reaction that can be fatal. Such a reaction involves different parts of the body (skin, respiratory tract, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems).

Symptoms of anaphylaxis appear within minutes of eating the offensive food. Symptoms include itchiness, a metallic taste in the mouth, tingling, hives, swelling in the mouth and throat, and asthma. Anaphylaxis can also result in a coma.

Epi-pens (Epinephrine) is a drug used to treat anaphylaxis and should be used immediately when a reaction occurs or is thought to occur. Once an epi-pen has been administered, it is necessary to immediately go to a hospital for observation, as an allergic reaction could re-occur hours later. If you live more than 20 minutes away from a hospital, you should have two epi-pens with you at all times in case you need to re-administered the epinephrine after a reaction.

Allergy Relief: New Treatments and Prevention

At the Duke Medical Center, a desensitization (immunotherapy) study found that after administering a small, precise quantity of peanut flour to children every day—a dose that was slowly increased—the children's sensitivity to peanut flour slowly diminished.

That means that avoidance is, at present, the only proven treatment in fighting peanut allergies. People with peanut allergies must avoid not only eating and touching peanuts, but foods containing peanuts, including peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies and chili. They should also avoid people who are eating peanuts.
Checking labels carefully for peanut-based ingredients is also important in reducing the risk of a reaction to peanuts.

Peanuts and Pregnant and Nursing Women
While studies have not found a conclusive link between the maternal consumption of peanuts and a peanut allergy in their infants, experts warn that this is not sufficient evidence to prove that there is no risk associated with eating peanuts while pregnant. Experts recommend pregnant women avoid a high consumption of peanuts.

On the other hand, a maternal history of asthma, peanut allergies, and allergies to foods other than peanuts significantly increases the risk of an infant's susceptibility to developing a peanut allergy.

There is a lack of information on infant sensitization to peanuts because of eating peanuts while breastfeeding. But women with either a personal history of or close relationship to someone with peanut allergies are advised not to eat peanuts while breastfeeding due to an elevated risk to their infants.

Gisele covers up for H&M Dubai

Gisele‘s ads for H&M have been slightly altered for the Dubai marketplace. The supers luscious limbs and daring decolletage are covered up by some sort of digital spanx. Dubai has been so conservative ever since those Sex and the City (2) gals rode in on their humps…and camels.

Chris brown interview on GMA

Chris Brown had a violent outburst at “Good Morning America” , allegedly triggered by questions about his infamous beating of Rihanna.

After interviewer Robin Roberts asked Brown about the topic, the performer went ballistic backstage, confronting production staff and screaming so loudly security had to be called.

We’re told Brown smashed a window in his dressing room with a chair, sending glass onto the Times Square intersection below.

Brown then stormed out of ABC without a shirt, skipping a scheduled performance for the network’s website.

In a since-deleted tweet immediately after the incident, Brown wrote, “I’m so over people bringing this past s**t up!!!”

Monica Rose: A fashionista behind the Kardashian's style

Monica Rose is famous for being the Kardashians personal stylist.

What made you want to become a stylist? How did you get your start?
I grew up in a small town in Northern California. After high school, I moved to LA and had no idea what I wanted to do. I had always worked in clothing stores, and fashion kind if fell into my lap. Where I’m from, people don’t really get into fashion. There were no reality shows about stylists when I was young, so I wasn’t even aware of what a “stylist” was. I had no idea I was going to be a stylist. I worked in many boutiques in LA. My last job was on Robertson Blvd, before it was a celebrity hot-spot. Back then, it was more clientile based with wealthy women just spending a lot of money. That is where I began styling. I had a lot of clients in New York and other cities, so I would put together outfits for them and send them out on approval. I worked with a lot of stylist too that would come in to shop for there clients. I kind of studies them and ask a lot of questions. I was just so curious on what they did on a day to day basis. One day a photographer asked me if I would work with him on some test shoots, and that was it. It just came very natural to me and I knew that was what I wanted to do.

What is your typical day?
For me every day is anything but typical! There’s always something different from each day to the next. But if I had to describe my more typical days, I would say they consist of balancing my personal clients, such as the Kardashians, with my job as Key Stylist of The Daily 10 on E! Entertainment. I am always doing pulls, answering emails & phone calls, returning items and doing fittings all this with photo shoots and events in between. Things can get pretty hectic but I always manage to make it work.

How would you describe Kim’s style?
Kim is one of those people that can go from edgy, to girlie, to classic and always look amazing. But no matter what we put her in, she always looks sexy, feminine, and put together.

If you could choose any celebrity living or dead to “make-over” who would it be and why?
I would love to make-over Jessica Simpson. She’s a gorgeous, curvy woman, and I just think she doesn’t know how to dress for her body type. I’ve heard she’s a lot smaller than she looks, because she doesn’t cater to her shape. I would love to show her how.

Is there one look our outfit that you styled that you would consider your most favorite?
I will always love Kim’s 2009 Grammy look that I did, the outfit she wore while hosting the Leather and Laces party this year in Miami, and the Balenciaga dress she wore to the opening of Eve nightclub in Las Vegas December 2009. The amazing thing about Kim is that she can go from super sexy to fashion forward and it never looks forced!

What’s the biggest challenge when styling a celebrity?
I would say probably the biggest challenge is keeping up with their hectic schedules! It takes a lot of work and planning ahead. My clients are great because their personalities play a huge part of their style, which makes it easier to know what they will want to wear. It’s also got a lot easier as I’ve gotten closer to my clients. I have a far better idea of what will work than I did when I first started working with them.

Have you ever had a designer who refused to send you clothes?
Yes, I won’t say names, but there have definitely been a few. It’s always challenging getting wardrobe, especially during awards season. When I first started, everyone said no to me. But since then I’ve built relationships with showrooms and stores, and that’s the key.

The Rachel Zoe Project is major. Would you ever want to have your own styling show? What would make your show different if you did have one?
I’ve never really thought about it. I guess if I had one, I would make it different by showing viewers how to mix highs and lows, how to dress for their body, and what really goes on behind the scenes. The hard parts of the job! Not just the fun stuff.

Who in your opinion has flawless style?
For red carpet, I love Zoe Saldana and Diane Kruger. They are flawless! For everyday style, it has to be Kate Moss. She can do no wrong in my book!

Name your three favorite shopping destinations?
The Rose Bowl Flea Market, Robertson Blvd., and H&M.

Name three items no woman should have in her closet.
Oh there’s way more than three! But if I had to pick three, I would say Ed Hardy, Crocs and anything that’s not age appropriate.

Would you ever consider styling in NYC?
I’m not saying I won’t ever consider it, but LA is definitely the place for me right now. My family’s here, all of my clients are here, and the show I work on is here. So for right now, I would have to say no. But you never know what the future will hold!

Any future projects you want to plug or share with our readers?
Right now, I’m very busy with my clients, so it’s hard to put my time and energy into anything else. But I’m focusing on dedicating more time to my blog (www.monicarosestylist.blogspot.com) for my fans. But I’m always open to new opportunities!

Christian Louboutin

PROFILE of shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

In homage to the Surrealists, the shoe designer Christian Louboutin once created a pair of pumps with a hydrodynamic shape, a bulging eye above the pinkie toe, and tessellating rows of black and gold scales. For a private client, a mine owner, he made a pair of shoes with ruby soles. To Louboutin, shoes are less interesting for their physical properties than for their psychological ones.

He sells more than five hundred thousand pairs of shoes a year, at prices ranging from three hundred and ninety-five dollars to six thousand. The sole of each of his shoes is lacquered in a vivid, glossy red. The red soles offer the pleasure of secret knowledge to their wearer. They are also a marketing gimmick that renders an otherwise indistinguishable product instantly recognizable.

One of his most popular designs is the Very Privé, a sinuous high heel with an open toe and an extreme, hidden platform. With several swoops of his pen, Louboutin has managed to make Manolo Blahnik’s princessy slingbacks look as if they were meant for ladies who spend their days eating charity lunches of chicken salad and melon balls. Louboutin believes in repelling preciousness with a sense of humor. Once, he made the straps of a sandal out of tape measures. At heart, he is a showguy, and his shoes are miniature stages. Louboutin is to Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau what Marc Jacobs is to Bleecker Street—the sovereign of an urban fiefdom.

Louboutin opened his first shop at the end of 1991, in the Galérie Vero-Dodat. Today, he has thirty-five stores in sixteen countries. Mentions Konstantin Kakanias and Hugo Marchand. Louboutin started his company after working for Charles Jourdan. He now employs four hundred and twenty people. A Louboutin shoe begins with a sketch. Once the sketches are complete, they are sent to the Louboutin factory, outside Milan. A team of artisans works long hours to translate Louboutin’s sketches into three dimensions. Three weeks later, a set of prototypes will arrive at Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Louboutin’s best shoes are almost prosthetic, morphing the body as radically as it is possible to do without surgery. He also maintains a small atelier on Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, where he can cater to the whims of his private clients.

Despite the cachet of the red soles, Louboutin has not been particularly aggressive in fending off imitators. It took him until 2007 to file for trademark protection in the U.S. This fall, Louboutin marks the twentieth anniversary of the company with a book about his career, to be published by Rizzoli. Describes the neighborhood where Louboutin grew up. He considers his shoes as a sort of man-bait: men like high heels, and women like being liked by men. With their erotic connotations, Louboutin’s shoes have served as props in many romances, not all of them innocent.

Elizabeth Taylor dies

Elizabeth Taylor died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles today, after battling the condition since 2004. In losing Taylor, we have lost one of our few living beauty icons; known for her "violet" eyes, she also had an arsenal of celebrity fragrances long before it was in vogue.

In fact, White Diamonds, released in 1991, was still the most globally successful celebrity fragrance in 2008.
Taylor's successful transition from child star to Oscar winner, many marriages, and pricey jewelry collection have made her a favorite of Allure's Beauty by Numbers page for years. It actually became a joke between editors when she would be absent from the beauty timeline

To honor this saucy lady, we've decided to give Taylor her own Beauty By Numbers. It could be a lot longer of course, but below is a brief history of a great beauty.

2: Number of rows of eyelashes Taylor was born with due to a genetic mutation.

7: Taylor's age when she left London, where she was born to American parents, for Los Angeles in 1939.

4: Years later, at age 11, she was a child star, making a successful debut in Lassie Come Home.

1: Years after that she became a national sensation in National Velvet.

12: Approximate age of Taylor when she purchased her first piece of jewelry—a flower pin for her mother—with her allowance money.

37: Taylor's age when Richard Burton bought her the Peregrina Pearl (once owned by Mary Tudor) for $37,000.

1: Number of weeks Taylor waited before telling Burton that one of their Pekingese dogs chewed on the pearl in a Caesars Palace hotel room.

16: Age at which Taylor claims she went on her first date.

8: Number of times Taylor was married in her lifetime, to seven different husbands.

16: Number of months between Taylor and Burton's first divorce and their second marriage.

10: Number of months the second marriage lasted.

12: Number of Academy Award nominations between Taylor and Burton.

2: Number of Academy Awards Taylor won.

7: Taylor's rank on the American Film Institute's list of Female Legends.

3: Length in hours of Taylor and Michael Jackson's first phone call in the 1980s (they had yet to meet in person). Their friendship quickly blossomed.
1990s: Decade the commercial for White Diamonds premieres and seems to play on a loop; in it, Taylor utters her famous line, "These have always brought me luck."

1999: Year the actress was made a Dame of the British Empire.

2002: Year Taylor was diagnosed with skin cancer, after a basal cell was discovered on her cheek.
