Samsung Galaxy Tab runs on Android v 2.2 also called Froyo while iPad 2 runs on iOS 4.3, the latest OS from Apple. But sadly the Tab couldn’t get the latest Android iteration, the Gingerbread that is a big minus for the tablet. The iPad 2 runs on A5 Dual Core processor while Tab runs on 1.08 GHz Cortex A8. Apple is yet to confirm the RAM whereas Samsung Galaxy Tab has 512 MB of RAM. The biggest difference between the Tab and iPad 2 is the screen size. Samsung launched Galaxy Tab with a screen size of 7-inches and iPad 2 comes with a 9.7-inch screen. But very soon we’ll be seeing the Tab coming with a 10.1-inch screen.
Another remarkable point of difference between both the tablets is its thickness. Talking about the most recent Tab, the 10.1-inch Tab, the thickness is going to be 10.9mm while Apple has reduced the thickness of its second generation iPad from 13.4mm to 8.8mm. One feature where Tab scores over the iPad 2 is that it supports Flash whereas iPad 2 doesn’t support Flash. Tab also has microSD card slot for expandable memory and iPad 2 doesn’t. Phone calls can also be made via Samsung Galaxy Tab but no phone calls on iPad 2. The dimensions of the two tablets are nowhere comparable as both have totally different dimensions.
But the good thing about the iPad 2 is its graphic speed which is 9 times better now. The iPad 2 has two cameras just like the Tab, iPad 2 has one VGA front facing camera with FaceTime feature and a 5 MP camera for still photography an video recording at 720p. Tab comes with a 1.3 MP front facing camera for video telephony and another 3MP camera for stills and video recording. iPad2 comes in three memory option namely, 16, 32 and 64GB while Samsung Galaxy Tab comes in 16 and 32 GB memory. Last but not the least is the price of the two tablets. iPad 2 is priced between $499 and $729 for various memory version while Tab’s prices varies from carrier to carrier.
